We traveled to the Legion of Honor Museum last week to view the Pierre Bonnard paintings. All of us agreed that this special exhibition was truly extraordinary. Bonnard was a hidden gem among the plethora of post Impressionists. He was the son of a French bureaucrat and turned away from a conventional career, preferring a life of painting. “His work reflected an Arcadian vision of everyday life filled with color, light, humor and tenderness.” He made a key contribution to bridging Impressionism and modernism. We were enthralled by his work and we were grateful to stop off at the Museum Gift Shop to purchase mementos. For those of you who have never visited the Legion of Honor, it is located in a divine spot in San Francisco with panoramic views from every angle. It’s definitely a “must visit”.
